Beauty in Darkness

Docklands, Melbourne. Something about this shot just mesmerizes me, although I can’t exactly explain why. At first glance, I thought this shot was too dark. But this big, beautiful yacht seemed more majestic and sharp and the light reflections from the distant skyscrapers danced on the smooth and calm waters. Maybe this is too dark for my taste. But I can’t deny that it is beautiful.

Carry Me Home

The Carrier

No, this isn’t real. But it’s eerily life-like I had to go around this particular display like a vulture at the National Gallery of Victoria to make sure they’re not breathing. Patricia Piccinini’s  “The Carrier” is made of silicone, fibreglass, human and animal hair, and clothing. But aside from its almost-real appearance, what I found most intriguing about this exhibit was the meaning behind it. See full shot below.

The Carrier

There was no explanation so I’ll leave it to you to create your own meanings and metaphors. That is, after all, the point of art: to make us think and challenge our own perceptions.
